VANCOUVER, Wash. - A fight over a parking spot leads to a disabled man accidentally shooting himself in the leg, Vancouver police now say.The man got into an argument with another man at the Westfield Vancouver Shopping Mall, near the Outback Steakhouse restaurant. Our news partners at The...more Columbian newspaper report the man was upset over the other man parking his motorcycle in a handicapped spot. "A struggle ensued," reports Vancouver police, "and the gun went off."We're told it's the man who pulled the gun who accidentally shot himself. The man was taken to Southwest Washington Medical Center for a non-life-threatening wound to the leg.And here's the irony, according to our investigation: The spot turned out to not be a handicapped parking space. A Vancouver Police spokesperson said the owner of the gun will be charged with a crime as soon as he is released from the hospital.Vancouver police are not releasing the suspected shooter's name until his is charged.

Effective immediately, the Vancouver Police Department (VPD) will no longer have staff available for public service counters at VPD East Precinct (520 SE 155th Ave) and Police Headquarters (605 E Evergreen Blvd). This comes as a result of the recent layoffs of civilian staff. Counter service for...more the public will only be available at the VPD West Precinct between 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday-Friday.
