A 3-year-old boy was left stranded at a MAX platform when a door on the train malfunctioned, separating the toddler from his dad.The incident happened Monday, Nov. 16 at the S.E. Main Street...more Station.According to TriMet, as the boy was getting off the train, he pushed the accessible ramp button on the door, causing it to open and then close again to deploy the ramp. TriMet officials say the door should have reopened but it didn't and the father and son were separated. They are investigating, saying the ramp deployment process may have been overridden, causing it to be interrupted.A woman who was standing on the platform tried to get the door to open, but couldn't and the train took off. She ended up staying with the boy until his father returned seven minutes later from a returning train.The father reported that he tried to push the intercom button inside the train to contact the operator but got no response. Investigators think Mallory Ewart used money raised for Gordon Patterson’s family to bail the suspected hit-and-run driver, Eugene Cellestine, out of jail. Ewart is reportedly Cellestine’s girlfriend. Patterson, a teacher at Hudson's Bay, died at the scene of the collision.

No one was hurt in the fire that started just before 4 a.m. on an end unit of the third story. The damage was severe to one unit, but there may be some additional damage to the adjacent unit's balcony. There are 18 units in the building that was on fire.

They will be filling bags with Thanksgiving dinner items that will be donated to...more needy families.It's all part of a day-long radio-thon and auction to benefit the Bald Faced Truth Foundation, a local non-profit established by KATU's Anna Song and the Oregonian's John Canzano. The organization supports the arts, education and athletics for local youth who would not otherwise be able to afford to participate.The event is being held at the Safeway store in the Pearl, at 1303 N.W. Vancouver police are looking into alleged improper use of funds gathered from fundraisers that were held after a popular teacher in was killed in a hit-and-run incident in September. According to a...more story Friday in the Columbian newspaper, some of the money may have been used to bail the suspect in the case out of jail. Gordon Patterson, 50, died September 15 when police say 18-year-old Antonio Eugene Cellestine hit him from behind south of St. Johns on 41st St. and left as Patterson lay dying near his mangled bicycle. Patterson was a popular teacher at Hudson’s Bay High School in Vancouver. He often rode his bicycle to the school. Now, investigators think Mallory Ewart used money raised for Patterson’s family to bail Cellestine out of jail. Ewart is reportedly Cellestine’s girlfriend.

There was an overnight two-alarm fire in the Raleigh Hills area of Washington County that caused severe damage to one apartment. The fire happened at the Montclaire Terrace Apartments, located at...more 4835 SW Oleson Road in Portland. No one was hurt in the fire that started just before 4 a.m. on an end unit of the third story. The damage is severe to one unit, but there may be some additional damage to the adjacent unit's balcony. "Fire crews are really wrapping up their part of the activity here," said Walt Peck of Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue just after 6 a.m. "Our investigators are on scene now and they've actually done a preliminary walk of the apartment." Peck also said the next process of the fire crews is what's called a "dig out" where they will sift through the various levels of fire damage and try to determine a cause of the fire.

Two accomplices in the shooting of a southeast Portland convenience store clerk pleaded guilty this week to felony murder charges.The clerk, Chester Yeom (pictured below), was shot in March 2007 at...more Belmont Market, located at Southeast 34th Avenue and Belmont Street.The shooting left Yeom paralyzed and almost totally disabled. He spent weeks in a coma and on life support before he regained consciousness and was moved to a nursing facility.  However, he later died of an infection.The shooter, Jimmy Kashi, was convicted of attempted aggravated murder before Yeom's death and sentenced to 35 years. But he is now being charged with murder and will appear before a judge next month. Two of Kashi's accomplices, Toshio Takanobu and Sharmarke Hassan, will now face prison time as well after entering guilty pleas for their role in the crime. And a third accomplice, Marjorie Reyes, was scheduled to appear before a judge Friday afternoon.For more background on this story

The Washington County Sheriff’s Office, in conjunction with Crime Stoppers, is offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of Josh David Nicholas. Nicholas,...more 36, currently has two outstanding warrants for his arrest. One is from Douglas County Community Corrections for Dangerous Drugs and the other is from the Washington County Circuit Court for failing to appear on a stolen vehicle charge. Both of these warrants have been active for almost one year, and deputies are having a difficult time locating Nicholas. Nicholas has a lengthy criminal history, having been arrested more than 45 times in three different states. Past convictions include: possession of methamphetamine, felon in possession of a restricted weapon, resisting arrest, fourth-degree assault, eluding police in a vehicle and third-degree escape. It's the second round of the Class 5A state high school football playoffs and two Hillsboro teams are headed into action. Top-ranked Hillsboro (9-1) will host the unranked Pelicans of Klamath Union...more (7-3) in a 7 p.m. game at Hare Field. Hillsboro won the Northwest Oregon Conference this season; Klamath Union finished second in the Souther Sky Conference to Crater this season. Meanwhile, Glencoe will make a return trip to Bend -- someplace the Crimson Tide is familiar with -- to take on the Lava Bears in a second-round game. Glencoe, ranked No. 6, scored a win in the season-opener at Bend, ranked No. 9, last year and then followed it up with a win in the first round of the playoffs in a game that was also played in Bend. Prosecutors are expected to outline evidence they have presented in the trial against the former University of Washington student Amanda Knox and her Italian ex-boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito. Knox and Sollecito could face life in prison if convicted of murder.
