PORTLAND, Ore. - KATU crews went out with Portland Police officers while they were on Spring Break patrol Saturday night, and wound up looking for a suspected shooter.Officers were patrolling a Montessori school in Southeast Portland when their patrol turned into an investigation near Southeast 148th Avenue and Division Street. PORTLAND, Ore. - Portland's 2010 Pinbrawl tournament took place in Old Town Sunday, featuring some of the finest pinball players competing on a full-size Williams "Johnny Mnemonic" pinball machine.  The 2009 tourney drew more than 120 players; this year's tourney is capped at 128 players.  Portland...more Pinbrawl 2010 also featured "side stage" tournaments with highly challenging rules, including one-handed play and "split flipper" player, where two players each control one side of the machine.  We've heard that pinball pros and potential prodigies in bars and basements across the country are talking about Pinbrawl, making Portland a whole new type of tourist draw.

As a small business owner, Dayna and her family said they were concerned about how to cover the mounting medical bills that will surely accompany the diagnosis. They helped the fund-raising effort on March 21. With Salon Services chipping in for product, any of Dayna's clients who booked book haircuts or color services for Sunday had 100 percent of the proceeds go to Stella's medical fund.

PORTLAND, Ore. - Police are calling a shooting this morning in downtown Portland gang related.It happened around 1:45 a.m. Saturday near Southwest Fourth Avenue and Oak Street.One man was shot. We're told that a friend drove him to the hospital, and his wounds aren't life-threatening.No arrests have been made.

PORTLAND, Ore. - A woman in a Southeast Portland apartment complex says she escaped an apartment fire Saturday morning thanks to her dog.The two-alarm fire, at Waverly Surf Apartments on Southeast Linn Street, spread down an exterior stairway to as many as four apartments and then to the attic,...more Portland Fire reports in a press release. Portland Fire reports that this unidentified woman was able to exit down the stairway. The fire started around 2:30 a.m., reportedly in the stairwell next to Waverly Surf Apartments' Unit 758. "No one was injured," Portland Fire reports in a press release. "All residents escaped prior to the arrival of fire companies."The Red Cross sent personnel to the scene, assisting displaced residents.The two-alarm fire was brought under control just before 3:30 a.m., with 60 firefighters at the scene. Crews left the scene at 6 a.m., and a fire investigator stayed to finishing interviewing occupants and members of the apartment's management company. We're told

PORTLAND, Ore. - Oregon Health & Science University is urging Oregon's congressional delegation to support health care reform legislation that would expand coverage to millions of Americans. In letters to Oregon's five congressmen, OHSU leaders urged passage of HR 3590 (read the full text) and...more companion legislation to make necessary changes to the health bill passed earlier by the Senate.  "Our support for this bill stems from our deep-seated commitment to health care as a core part of the OHSU mission," said OHSU President Joe Robertson. WASHINGTON COUNTY, Ore. - The death of a naturopathic doctor that was thought to be a suicide has been ruled a homicide and police have arrested a man they suspect is the killer. Around 8 a.m. March 14, Washington County Sheriff's Deputies received a call of a suspicious vehicle located at 1500...more N.W. Cornelius Schefflin Road in unincorporated Washington County. A Sheriff's Deputy arrived and found southeast Portland resident Dr. David Greenspan, 46, dead in his car - apparently due to a gunshot to the head. His car was parked at the Emanuel Cemetery. The initial investigation led deputies to believe Greenspan's death may have been a suicide, but detectives were dispatched in the event it was a homicide case. The following day, the Oregon Medical Examiners Office came back with crucial news -- Greenspan, who had a clinic in the Tigard area, had two additional gunshot wounds that were not fatal. TVF&R Captain Troy Spisla has received the American Legion Firefighter of the Year Award for the State of Oregon. This annual award is conferred upon one firefighter in the state who, according to the American Legion, exemplifies the virtues of professionalism and dedication and has demonstrated a...more distinct pattern of community service to his/her community, State or Nation. "TVF&R is proud of Captain Spisla," said TVF&R's Deputy Fire Chief Mike Duyck. "He exemplifies the qualities to which all of our firefighters aspire." Spisla is in charge of TVF&R's Fire Station 35 in King City.
